In hair transplant we extract the hair roots from the donor area which is situated on the back side of the head and implant into the bald area.

Your hair has roots which are present in the skin roughly 2.5 mm deep. These are called Follicles. As shown in the diagram, the male hormone i.e. DHT(De-Hydro-testosterone) attaches on the hair roots & causes some chain of reactions which makes the hair fall off (as shown in the diagram) For the male hormone to go and attach on the Hair Root, it requires a Receptor Site where it can go and attach.

These receptors are absent on the hair roots of the back-side of the head.

This area is called as the Donor Area or Permanent Zone or Bald Resistant Zone. The male hormone therefore, cannot attach on the hair roots of the donor area (as they do not have the receptor site for attachment of the male hormone). Therefore the hair in these areas won’t be affected by the male hormone and would stay permanently for the whole life. That is why this area is called as Permanent Zone. So we take the hair from this area and implant it into the bald area, so that later these implanted hair should not fall-off because of the effects of DHT This forms the logic of Hair Transplant.

Shedding after a hair transplant is also referred to by the very ominous sounding term “shock fall out.” The correct medical term is “effluvium” which literally means shedding. It is usually the miniaturized hair (i.e. the hair that is at the end of its lifespan due to genetic balding) that is most likely to be shed. Less likely, some healthy hair will be shed, but this should re-grow. Interestingly, if transplants are spaced less than one year apart, one often notices some shedding of the hair from the first transplant, but this hair grows back completely. For most patients, effluvium is not a major issue and should not be a cause for concern. In general, the more miniaturization one has and the more rapid the hair loss, the more likely shedding will be from the hair restoration surgery. Young, actively balding patients would be at the greatest risk. Older patients with stable hair loss would have the least risk. In either situation, since miniaturized hair is eventually going to be lost, the effluvium has no long-term effect on the outcome of the procedure. It is important to differentiate the phenomena described above from shedding of the hair in the graft. This shedding is an almost universal characteristic of a hair transplant and occurs because during a hair transplant a graft is temporarily stripped of its blood supply. As a response to this insult, the graft sheds its hair. This shedding is generally noted beginning a week following the procedure and can continue for up to six weeks. A very small percentage of patients do not shed and the transplanted hair continues to grow. In others, the transplanted hair remains on the scalp for months until a new hair pushes it out. Whether a patient sheds or not has no bearing on the outcome of the hair restoration. There are a number of ways to minimize the effects of post-operative shedding: the first is using medication, the second is timing the transplant properly, and the third is performing a procedure using a sufficient number of grafts. • Timing and the size of the transplant It is important to wait until a patient is ready to have a transplant, and then to perform one of sufficient size so that if there is some shedding, the procedure will more than compensate for it – and thus be worthwhile. A problem that patients often run into is that they present to their doctor with early hair loss but with a significant amount of miniaturization. The doctor performs a small procedure and it does not even compensate either for potential shedding or for progression of the hair loss. The result is that the patient is thinner (or more bald) than he was before the procedure.The better solution is to treat early hair loss with medication, but once you make a decision to begin surgery, have a procedure large enough to make a significant cosmetic improvement.

Your pre-existing hair is always vulnerable to fall because of the effects of DHT. We recommend you to start taking medication or treatments to prevent the falling of your pre-existing hair.

The donor area looks still the same after extraction, no baldness appears over there though the hair that has been extracted is been transplanted to the bald area. Loss of Hair doesn’t always indicate that you are going bald sometimes there is a skin disease which is the cause for it which is known as Alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is an acquired skin disease that can affect all hair-bearing skin and is characterized by localized areas of non-scarring hair loss. Alopecia areata, as a rule, is rarely associated with any other external or internal medical problems. Most often these bald areas regrow their hair spontaneously. Alopecia areata is rare before the age of 3 years. There seems to be a significant tendency to inherit alopecia areata from ancestors.

Current evidence suggests that alopecia areata is caused by an abnormality in the immune system. This particular abnormality leads to autoimmunity, a misguided immune system that tends to attack its own body. As a result, the immune system attacks particular tissues of the body. In alopecia areata, for unknown reasons, the body’s own immune system attacks the hair follicles and disrupts normal hair formation. Biopsies of affected skin show immune lymphocytes penetrating into the hair bulb of the hair follicles. Alopecia areata is occasionally associated with other autoimmune conditions such as thyroid disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis. The diagnosis or treatment of these diseases is unlikely to affect the course of alopecia areata. Sometimes, alopecia areata occurs within family members, suggesting a role of genes.

The most common pattern is one or more well-defined spots of hair loss on the scalp. There is also a form of more generalized loss of hair referred to as diffuse alopecia areata throughout the scalp. Occasionally, all of the scalp hair is lost, a condition referred to as alopecia totalis. Less frequently, the loss of all of the hairs on the entire body, called alopecia universalis, occurs.

The course of typical alopecia areata is not predictable with a high likelihood of spontaneous remission. The longer the period of time of hair loss and the larger the area involved, the less likely the hair will regrow. Unfortunately, this is not possible because your body would reject the hair transplant without the use of immunosuppressive drugs. The problem with immune suppressants is that they will lower your natural immune response, increasing your susceptible to infections and even cancer, and you’ll have to take them for the rest of your life. A transplant using someone else’s hair is also not desirable for aesthetic reasons. There’s the style of the hair, its texture, thickness, colour, etc. Trying to find the perfect donor whose hair would complement & flatter your particular features and blend in with your remaining hair would be a significant, if not impossible, challenge. It would be possible, however, to transplant the hair from one identical twin to another, but most likely if one went bald, so would the other.

I am sorry but you have not specified the time frame after which you have pulled out your hair hence we will answer the question in a general term. It should usually not make a difference if you done this after 15 days of the procedure, but I would still just let the hair fall out naturally when you apply a gentle samphoo . If there are any crusts (scabs) on the hair they are cosmetically bothersome, they can be gently scrubbed off in the shower at 10 days when very tiny recipient sites are used and you should wait slightly longer if larger sites were used. Since I don’t know the technique or site size used in your procedure, I would wait a full two weeks to be certain the grafts are permanent.

I heard body hair transplants is not preferred by your firm unless there is not another option? We have tried the technique in the past but have been dissatisfied with the results. Scalp hair, unlike the rest of the body, has multiple hairs rising out of each follicle. With leg and body hair, you have only one hair per follicle, not follicular units of multiple hairs. Leg hair is also very fine. It might thicken up a little bit after it is transplanted, but not enough to be clinically useful. I am sorry but your question isn’t clear are you talking about signs immediately after Hair Transplant or the look? To answer both questions first talking about the hair transplant according to the look. Hair Transplant will look completely natural depending on the standard of Surgeon and his expertise and the technique he is using. Usually all techniques will provide a natural look but there are difference in each technique but it largely depends on the expertise of the surgeon and the expertise of the team and post follow up of the procedure. Talking about immediate visible signs after hair transplant are here are a number of factors that can make a hair transplant obvious in the post-op period. These include the redness that you are asking about, but also crusting and swelling. Redness after hair restoration surgery is easily camouflaged with ordinary make-up. At one week post-op, the grafts are pretty secure, so that make-up can be applied and then gently washed off at the end of the day. Since the recipient wounds are well healed by one week, using make-up does not increase the risk of infection. At 10 days after the hair transplant, the grafts are permanent and can not be dislodged, therefore, at this time the makeup can be removed without any special precautions. Usually, residual crusting (scabbing) presents more of a cosmetic problem than redness, but can be minimized with meticulous post-op care. Crusts form when the blood or serum that oozes from recipient sites after the procedure dries on the scalp. Although it is relatively easy to prevent scabs from forming with frequent washing of the scalp after the surgery, once the scabs harden they are difficult to remove without dislodging the grafts. I think you are referring the to FUT.The scalp is very elastic. When the strip of donor hair is cut out, the scalp is simply pulled together and the edges of the wound are stitched. The only evidence of surgery will be a thin hidden line underneath the hair that grows vertically at the back of the head.

All surgical hair restoration procedures move hair – they cannot create new hair (except if you are going for Bio Medical Specifically),hair transplantation takes existing hair from the donor area (located in the back and on the sides of the scalp) and moves (transplants) them to the part of the scalp that has lost hair. It is not usually the case that there is not enough hair in one’s donor area to replace all lost hair but when that happens and when the patient is not satisfied with such low amount of Grafts being extracted from Safe donor area then we recommend for other options like Bio Medical Hair Fibre (artificial hair) or Body hair Transplant. That said, in persons with extensive hair loss, the restoration can often produce a dramatic improvement in one’s appearance.

It is possible that you simply don’t need a hair transplant at this time one. If you have early thinning, it may be best treated with medication, or not at all. After the strip is removed we use either sutures (stitches) or staples to close the wound. We now close most wounds in the donor area with staples, rather than sutures, because we have found that staples cause less injury to the remaining hair follicles compared to sutures; therefore, more hair will be available for future hair restoration sessions if required.

If your donor hair supply was not good enough to do FUT (i.e. you have too little donor hair and too much bald area to cover) then most likely you will not be a candidate for FUE either, since both procedures require, and use up, donor hair. That said, if don’t need that much donor hair, but the nature of your donor area is such that a linear FUT scar might be visible then FUE might be useful. There is another reason to deny you as a good candidate for a FUT Surgery that you might not have a flexible enough skin to extract a strip of skin for hair transplant for FUT method but in this case you will be eligible for FUE or Suction robotic Hair Transplant which directly extracts the follicle from the donor area without taking out the strip of skin.
